The Alpini Group at Corno Medale is one of the most vertical and athletic equipped routes of the Prealpi lecchesi: 414 meters of altitude difference equipped on polished limestone rock, overlooking Lecco. It is challenging and exposed, especially in the first half, and is not suitable for beginners. It was reopened in 2022 after maintenance, with the old chain system replaced by metal cable.
It starts from the parking lot above Rancio Alto, beyond the landing at the end of the road. Follow the cemented road until a bend, then the signs along the paramassous networks until the junction where you leave CAI 52 for the steep CAI 58 in the wood; a half-coast path between the stones (red valleys) leads to the attack in about 40 minutes. The attack is immediately vertical, on rock with natural but smooth hooks. After a short traverse on the right you go diagonally to the left until the key passage: a traverse exposed to the right that bypasses an edge with the help of brackets. The road then goes vertically, very aerial, alternating plaques, dihedri and edges; in the middle of a long plate a small terrace with madonnina precedes a hardened dihedron. After the first difficult section (about 1h15 from the attack), a flat stretch introduces the second part, less vertical, with inclined rocks and short walls, up to the equipped summit path and the summit cross (1029 m, about 2h from the attack).
From the cross you descend north for a few minutes to a saddle with pole (Coltiglione/San Martino), then right on the Path Attrezzato of the Medale up to Rancio (about 1h from the summit).
In the area there are Sentiero Attrezzato del Medale, la Ferrata della Galleria di Morcate e la Ferrata Gamma 1.
