    Ferrata Walserfall

The Ferrata Walserfall is the most recent equipped route in Val d’Ossola: inaugurated in 2020, vertically supports the spectacular waterfall that flows from the woods above Baceno (VB), in the area of the Natural Park of Alpe Veglia and Devero. A path of about 3 hours with two distinct sections and an evocative name for each key passage — the Wall of the Waterfall, the Chestnut Cengia, the Wall of the Tetti — in a wild and suggestive gneissic environment.

    ▲Approach

Starting Kiss (VB). The main access point is behind theAncient Latteria: follow the path H00 towards the road bridge of Osso, cross and take a path along the river to the base of the ferrata (30 minutes). Alternatively, you start directly from the village following the signpost.

    ▲The path

L’ attack occurs on a platter of black gneisss near the waterfall, where the first chains work as a handrails on simple steps. After the initial leaps, the Muro of the Cascata comes alive: a long vertical placconata with abundant brackets, where l’ exhibition grows progressively keeping close to the waterfall. A traverse to the right leads to a terrace and then to the Cengia of the Cascata, term of the first section — here an escape route to the left requires the ford of the stream.

The second section is the most demanding: from the climbs you go up to the Muro delle Vespe, with brackets leading to the left under blackish rock roofs. After the Cengia dei Castagni the Muro dei Tetti, the most exciting part: reassemble the roofs to the right, then vertical, then traverse to the left with pedivelle for the feet. You arrive at the plateau of Piodacalva, groupet of huts and stables, beginning of the descent.

    ▲Character and difficulty

Hard difficulty. The Wall of Tetti requires arms and technique: the final traverse with pedivelle testifies the resistance to prolonged effort. Wet gneiss (fog or water spray) significantly increases the commitment of the entire route.

⚠ Ferrata inaugurated in 2020, under good construction conditions. With strong recent rainfall the cascade can increase considerably by approaching the protections: assess the weather conditions of the previous days. The wall of the roofs can become slippery with intense humidity.
    ▲Discipline

Da Piodacalva you descend on a path into the woods and return to Baceno in about 30 minutes. The complete tour is about 3 hours for 3 km of route with 500 m of total altitude difference.

    Moderately Hard● OpenDescriptionComplexityMapsGallery

The Ferrata Oliva Detassis is a great classic of the Brenta Dolomites: a long sequence of vertical metal stairs — more than one hundred meters of well constructed bastion — that connect the plateau below with the Bocca Bassa di Massodì (2790 m), entering the itinerary of the Bocchette Alte. The dolomitic environment of rare beauty abundantly compensates for the long approach.

    ▲Approach

    ▲The path

L’ entrance to the ferrata takes place with a first staircase, followed by staffe metalliche which lead to a long sequence of scale vertical very exposed: the bastion exceeds 100 meters of vertical development and is excellently built, with the possibility to stop to rest on the stairs themselves. Halfway there is a stopover . After passing the second section of stairs and a final crossing you reach the Bocca Bassa di Massodì (2790 m). From here you can continue along the Bocchette Alte towards the Tucket Refuge.

    ▲Character and difficulty

Difficulty Moderately Difficult. The required technique is contained — the stairs have good brackets and chains — but the exposure is high and the altitude above 2700 m imposes caution in the evaluation of weather conditions. This ferrata is a variant of the Via delle Bocchette Alte, not a complete autonomous route.

⚠ Long itinerary with approach of more than 3 hours: start soon. The altitude exposes to the afternoon thunderstorms typical of the Dolomites. The Brentei Refuge offers accommodation for those who want to break the trip in two days.
    ▲Discipline

From the Bocca Bassa in Massodì you descend on a path towards the Brentei Refuge and from there you return to the parking lot of the Vallesinella Refuge for the uphill road. Alternatively, continue the Bocchette tour towards the Tucket Refuge. Total tour time: about 10 hours.

    Ferrata Terza Cengia Pomagagnon

The Ferrata Terza Cengia Pomagagnon — also known as Sentiero Attrezzato Zumeles — travels through a spectacular census on the eastern walls of Pomagagnon above Cortina d’Ampezzo. The alternation of equipped traits and free passages on a slender and exposed, with unstable gravel background, makes the itinerary more challenging on the level of attention than pure technique. Extraordinary panorama on the surrounding Dolomites.

    ▲Approach

Starting from parking at the Putti Institute, above Cortina d’Ampezzo (Belluno). You climb north-east on a path, then you take the cycle path 211 holding the left; continue on the sentiero 202 uphill holding the right and ignoring the 218 marker. When you arrive at the Ferrata Strobel you hold the right and you lower it briefly, then go up to the indications for the Terza Cengia: about 1 now and 30 minutes from the ’ start.

    ▲The path

The nod initially appears wide, then shrinks considerably becoming very slender and exposed. The equipped sections alternate with free passages on tilted and gravel soil: progression requires constant concentration. The unstable background is the true pitfall of this itinerary more than the technical difficulty of the individual sections. After wandering a corner you can reach the Punta Erbin, with an exceptional view of the Tofane group and the Dolomites of Cortina.

    ▲Character and difficulty

Difficulty Easy for mountaineering, but the exposure and the gravel bottom require care. The altitude difference of the itinerary is 981 m on 16.3 km with a total of 6 hours: the long times are due to the approach and the difference in altitude to be faced, not to the complexity of the ferrata.

⚠ The gravel bottom can be slippery even with dry soil. Be careful not to move rocks towards any mountaineers that follow. Carefully evaluate in case of humidity or wet soil.
    ▲Discipline

From the Punta Erbin you go down the path towards Cortina, returning to the parking lot of the ’ Putti Institute. L’ total round-trip itinerary is about 6 hours for 16.3 km.

The Attrezzato Path of Sileggio — in the municipality of Mandello del Lario, above the hamlet Sonvico — is a long and varied route that connects two ridges and two peaks through a four-metre fireplace and two metal stairs, the first of which overhanging. With about five hours of walking and 1100 m of altitude difference is a challenging itinerary, but the quality of the equipped progression and the landscape on the Lario pay off every effort.

    ▲Approach

Starting from the fraction of Sonvi (Mandello del Lario, LC). Take over trail 15 in the wood following the white-red markers to the pole of the marker 17B (Southeast Coast), reachable in about 45 minutes. From here you take the 17B signpost (blue signs) steep climb to the base of the Zucco di Tura, where the old cable car is located.

    ▲The path

From the base of the cable car, the ground is more challenging: a slope with chains leads to the Zucco of Tura. Then follow the eastern ridge to a saddle where you will find a deviation for the Val d’ Era: ignore it and continue uphill towards the Zucco di Morterolo. The key passage is a 4-metre camino — the chain is located on the left but the best hooks are on the right. two metallic scales (the first overhanging, the second most supported) and a wall that climbs first diagonally then vertically up to the Croce of summit (1368 m s.l.m.).

    ▲Character and difficulty

Difficulty Moderately Difficult. The length of the route (10 km, 5 hours a/r with the stops) is the most characteristic of this route: it is not technically prohibitive but requires training and good resistance.

⚠ The chain of the fireplace is a little lasca: use it only as a balance point, not for traction. Water is not available on the route: enough. The path can be combined with the River Path in reverse direction, adding about 45 minutes for a total of about 6 hours.
    ▲Discipline

The descent takes place for 17B mark reversely, returning to Sonvico. Those who want to stretch can continue towards the Attreized Path of the River, crossing it in the opposite direction (+45 min). Total itinerary: 10 km, height difference 1100 m, estimated time 5 hours.

Sentiero Attrezzato Filippo Benedetti – Punta Almana

The Attrezza Path Filippo Benedetti reaches the Punta Almana (1390 m) above Lake Iseo from the eastern shore of Brescia. The real ferrata lasts about an hour from the attack, but it fits into an almost four-hour itinerary with exceptional views of the Sebino. From north to south and in reverse direction.

    ▲Approach

The starting point is Portole, small hamlet above Provaglio d’Iseo on the eastern shore of Lake Iseo (Brescia). From here take a dirt road that climbs north-east to Salt Fork (about 1 hour). At the fork you enter the forest following the path 3V/314, you will meet a crossroads and take the right towards the Sentiero Benedetti, reached about 1 hour and 15 minutes from the departure.

    ▲The path

From ’ attack climbs through the meadows following the signs white-blue to a rocky fork. The Punta Cabrera is reached by ’, where the first diagonal nod begins on grass-terrous soil — maximum attention with the wet bottom. Follow a grassy canal and touch the Punta Cabrera, then a short descent precedes the most exposed cross , protected by cable. The final rock channel leads to the Punta Almana (1390 m), term of equipment, about 30 minutes from the ’ attack and 1 hour and 45 minutes from the start.

    ▲Character and difficulty

Easy difficulty. The equipment is adequate and the difference in level of the ferrata is limited. The point that requires greater care is the grassy bottom of the first nod, slippery if wet.

⚠ The path is accessible both north-south (Forcella di Sale → Croce di Pezzolo) and south-north, with possibility of crossing leaving a means at each end.
    ▲Discipline

From the Punta Almana you continue towards the Croce of Pezzolo following the 3V path southward, or you reverse the path returning to the Forcella di Sale. Total itinerary: about 3 hours and 45 minutes for 8.2 km with 830 m of total altitude difference.

The Sentiero Attrezzato dei Pizzetti, in the municipality of Esino Lario (LC), is a ring of about five hours that explores the Pizzetti di Esino through ridges and exposed passages, with a total difference of 900 m. Ideal for those looking for a short but complete alpine experience, with departure and arrival from the same point and white-red signage.

    ▲Approach

From Esino Lario (LC), reachable by car from SS36 of Lake Como and Spluga. It leaves l’ car in the center of the country and follows the signs for the Pizzetti of Esino. The path climbs into the forest reaching the base of the Pizzetti crests in about 45 minutes.

    ▲The path

The route develops as a ring with departure and arrival at Esino Lario. You go up to the Pizzetto di Sopra and then cross the ridge towards the Pizzetto di Sotto, with short stretches (cavi and brackets) at the most exposed points. The ridges offer exceptional views of Lake Como and the Grigne groups. Then descend along the path into the woods to the starting point.

    ▲Character and difficulty

Easy difficulty. The equipped stretches are short and well protected; the greater difficulty is given by the exposure of the crest. Suitable for hikers with experience of mountain trails.

⚠ The crest is very exposed to the wind. In case of bad weather or wet soil the difficulty increases considerably. Bring layered clothing and check the weather forecast before leaving.
    ▲Discipline

    Sentiero Attrezzato della Val Sorda

The Sentiero Attrezzato della Val Sorda develops in the Prealpi Veronesi, going up the wild valley of the same name between wooded limestone walls. Short but full of atmosphere: waterfalls, wells, rocks smoothed and the darkness of a short natural gallery alternate with stretches equipped with ropes and chains, making the ideal route for a half-day exit suitable for the whole family.

    ▲Approach

It starts from Lumini, fraction of Brentino Belluno (VR). Follow the road that climbs from Rivoli Veronese towards Val Sorda, parking all’ equipped area near the ’ entrance to the valley. L’ approach is very short: you reach l’ gorgia attack in a few minutes walk.

    ▲The path

The path goes up the stream between narrow and wet walls. Already all’ the first fixed ropes are first encountered to overcome a smooth boulder; then you cross a galleria natural in the total darkness (bring a torch). There are passages on boulders with ropes, passages next to waterfalls and pools, until you leave the gorgia in the upper part of the valley. The route is equipped with ropes and fixed chains at the most technical points.

    ▲Character and difficulty

Easy difficulty. The environment is wild but the technical difficulties are minimal. The passage in the natural gallery is the most striking moment: it is short but completely dark — a front torch is indispensable.

⚠ Bring a torch or front lamp to the gallery. The soil is often wet and slippery due to falls: footwear with good grip. Not suitable during the floods of the stream. It can be traveled all year round but better avoid intense rains.
    ▲Discipline

The Sentiero Attrezzato SOSAT is one of the great classics of the Brenta Dolomites: a ridge itinerary that runs along a long stretch of the Bocchette, with ladders, fixed ropes and passages exposed in a dolomitic environment of great impact. Technically demanding — one of the most challenging of the Bocchette — but exceptionally panoramic from the Rifugio Pedrotti to the Bocca di Tuckett.

    ▲Approach

Starting from the Rifugio Pedrotti (2491 m), reachable from the Val di Genova or from Molveno following the CAI signs. From the hut follow the path north to the ’ attack of the Central Bocchettes — time of approach from the refuge: about 20 minutes.

    ▲The path

The SOSAT runs through the Bocchette Centrali of the Brenta Dolomites with a sequence of vertical ladders, exposed hinges, fixed ropes and aerial beams. The most challenging steps are in the central part of the route, where the walls rise and l’ exposure becomes significant. It climbs up to the Armi Mouth and then to the Bocca of Tuckett (2648 m), where the equipped section ends.

    ▲Character and difficulty

Difficulty Moderately Difficult. It is one of the most technical and challenging routes of the Bocchette di Brenta: it requires experience of ferrata, absence of dizziness and good physical form. It is not an itinerary for beginners.

⚠ The SOSAT is exposed to the afternoon storms typical of the Dolomites: start early in the morning. Bring complete hardware kit (shading, double longe with heatsink, helmet). Metal stairs can be slippery in case of moisture. Always check snow conditions at the beginning and end of the season.
    ▲Discipline

From the mouth of Tuckett you descend to the Rifugio Tuckett and Sella (2272 m) following the CAI path. From here you can return to Madonna di Campiglio with the cable car or on foot. Total itinerary from ’ Tuckett Bocca attack: about 5 hours.

The Tru Dolomieu Path is the most challenging route of the Conturines group, in Alta Badia (BZ): 10 total hours, 1800 m of altitude difference and a wild and lonely Dolomite environment. Reserved for experienced mountaineers, it offers spectacular peaks and absolute silences in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.

    ▲Approach

    ▲The path

The Tru Dolomieu dates back to the walls of the Conturines with a sequence of equipped passages — fixed ropes, chains, stairs — in a strongly exposed environment and at high altitudes (over 3000 m). The Piz Conturines (3064 m) is the highest peak of the group and is the main term of the route. L’ route is long, physically very challenging and requires excellent altitude orientation.

    ▲Character and difficulty

Hard difficulty. The length of the route (10 hours, 1800 m of altitude difference), the altitude above 3000 m and the remote and lonely environment make this route suitable only for mountaineers with solid experience. It is not an itinerary for beginners or those who are not accustomed to the demanding equipped routes.

⚠ Start very soon: 10 hours of itinerary at altitude imply departure before 6:00. Snow can stay until July in some stretches. Bring complete hardware kit, warm clothing, food and water enough. The mountain hut Gardenaccia offers accommodation for those who want to break in two days.
    ▲Discipline

The descent takes place on the normal route of Piz Conturines or on the west side towards Val Badia, returning to La Villa. Total itinerary: about 10 hours for 17 km with 1800 m of altitude difference.

    Sentiero Attrezzato della Val Cassina

The Sentiero Attrezzato della Val Cassina dates back to a narrow and suggestive canyon between the Sasso dei Carbonari and Sasso Cavallo on the southern side of the North Grigna. It is a long route (6h 30 min, 1425 m of altitude difference) with metal equipment in the most challenging passages of the canalone, suitable for hikers in good physical form.

    ▲Approach

The departure is from the hamlet of Rongio in the municipality of Mandello del Lario (province of Lecco). From Mandello follow the roundabout, you pass under the railway bridge and walk up the road uphill to Rongio (about 400 m). From the parking lot follow the paved road that becomes dirt in the wood, then path that climbs with moderate slope in the direction of Val Cassina (about 3h until the beginning of the equipped sections).

    ▲The path

The Val Cassina is recessed between the wall of the Sasso dei Carbonari to the right (west) and the Sasso Cavallo to the left (east). In the most challenging stretches of the canalone are placed metal equipment — fixed steps and short reinforcements — which assist the overcoming of rocky and steeper ridges, sometimes with l’ help of hands and feet also in simple climbing. The canal ends at the Bocchetta della Val Cassina (1823 m, 45 min from the ’ start of the equipment), where the view opens on the meadows of the west side of the North Grigna.

    ▲Character and difficulty

Easy path from a technical point of view, but long and challenging for the difference in altitude of about 1425 m. There are support points along the road: the Elisa Refuge and the Bietti Buzzi Refuge are within walking distance.

    ▲Period and safety

From May to October. The canalone can hold snow in depth until late June: check the conditions before leaving. Bring enough water for a long hike.

    ▲Discipline

From Bocchetta della Val Cassina take a half-circle towards Rifugio Bietti Buzzi (1719 m), from which the sentiero 25 descends to Rongio for return to the car park (6h 30 min total). Alternatively, you can climb from Bietti Buzzi to the summit of the North Grigna or Monte Cavallo (signavia 16B, approx. 30 min extra).
